Saturday, June 16 - Moab to Lava Hot Springs - No No No...........Idaho Falls

We know heading North, we will be getting cooler weather, we are not really looking forward to it, but...it has to be done...

So after visiting Utah and most of the National Parks ( but not all) , we are both in agreement on our favourites.....

1st Place for us was Bryce Canyon, the colours were amazing!!!

2nd Place was Canyonlands National Park, it is so vast and you can just see forever and it really is just amazing, feels like a mini grand canyon, but without all the crowds...

3rd Place to Zion...it was beautiful and amazing, but sometimes the crowds and need to take tour busses everywhere, made it a little overwhelming...but really an amazingly beautiful landscape

Now out of the rocks and the crazy heat, North we go. Outside of Moab we hit this crazy dead little town called Green River, Utah.  It was really weird because it was kinda like a town from about 30 years ago that just DIED, like something in the water DIED!!!
Now these were the NICE buildings.....

It was really weird.  I googled it, to see what maybe took place in this town...nothing....but honestly, NOTHING IS LIVING IN THIS TOWN!!! except apparently Melons....we saw many Melon signs...but no People selling Melons...just signs...???

We took this highway, which when you google it, is one of the deadliest roads in Utah!!! Yikes
I read about this, and then we thought we were going a different way.....then we listened to Roxanne (GPS) ....OMG, I see why it is rated that!!! Lots of Trucks, impatient drivers that couldn't wait for the passing lanes, CRAZY!!

They should sell T-Shirts at the end of it all !!! But we made it, and into Provo and Salt Lake City once more.... and so glad I brought my travel pillow....she slept the whole way...

Out of Utah and into one of our favourite States, Idaho!!! Tater Country!!! We pulled into a place called Lava Hot Springs, we had been here before and thought it would be a nice one-night stopover...Its a crazy little town, maybe one mile long and so much activity its crazy.  There is a river that runs through town that you can rent tubes and ride down the river, an amazing pool with water slides, diving boards and hot pools. It's such a busy little touristy area, but really crazy.

The lineup for the waterslides actually goes over the road into town...

So we had a campsite...a tiny little campsite, we wiggled into, and all was okay...it was behind the large sign for the campsite....across the road from the Train...and the highway, but all-in-all, doable...

Until we went to take Gracie for a walk....and 2 sites over out runs this Chow Dog (off leash of course) and starts to attack Gracie!!! Well, of course both of us start kicking at this stupid dog (as the redneck female owners were just kinda sitting there).....so we finally get the dog away from us..and we move on.

A short while later the redneck young guys (who were out drinking all day on the river) came back..and lets say it got a wee bit uncomfortable....

George was okay staying and moving sites....Me, not so much....lets just say something was going down and I wanted no part of it. I don't think I have felt that uneasy (not since our big trip a few years ago when we had Downtown LA visitors on our ROOF!!)...

Anyways, we made tracks and I figured we might be safer as Walmart Campers...so off we went North...I have to say I did ask George several times to check to make sure nobody was following us...but then I realized those guys were too drunk to actually make it down the road that far...

So in a few hours we were settled in Walmart at Idaho Falls, a charming City (we had been here before a few years ago), enjoying the sights just a few minutes walk from our safe Campsite...

Good night from the safety of Idaho Falls....
