Tuesday, June 14 - Monument Valley
Decided to take a drive North towards Mexican Hat, Utah, heard of a few interesting things to see up that way. Gracie was pretty darn happy about that, she really prefers not to be left behind in the trailer. She was having a good morning snooze in the dirt.... but was more than happy to jump in the truck.Coffee'd up, and headed out.
First place we came across was Mexican Hat, aptly named for the rock formation North of Town, which yes, looks like a Mexican Hat. Kinda wondering what the "claim to fame" will be once this one falls off its perch?
Or maybe a Plane hits it??
Next stop, costs us $5.00 State Park Entrance Fee...for 5 minutes....Not really good value....George is still shaking his head at this one. He's unimpressed, hopefully the next side-trip I plan is a little better....
Looks a little like Horseshoe Bend, expect pretty much all the same colour, brown, luckily there was a little green otherwise not sure I wouldhave noticed it was water....
But when you see it on the GPS, it's pretty all over the place..
5 minutes, and on the road again...to a viewpoint that is supposed to be amazing...no RV's allowed...
Starts out looking okay...then switch back after switch back....
Great views early on in the climb...
Then OMG!!!!!, the road narrows, and there is a washed out area...where I don't think is wide enough for 2 vehicles....and yes....I see one coming...
White knuckling it all the way....I think there is a permanent imprint of my body still in the seat....
.....and this was all totally my idea!!!
And yes.....remember I said the signs said no RV's!!!! apparently there were a few Europeans who don't realize their Rental RV's are actually RV's ??? Go figure!!!
But we made it and the views were so worth it...
Now one thing down here seems to be getting the time right...apparently we are in an area where Arizona is on Standard Time Zone but some Navajo Nations is on Daylight Savings time and we are actually on the border of Arizona and Utah....BUT this one is a head scratcher., not sure how the truck thinks its High Noon!!!! luckily we don't have to be at work anytime soon !!!
This really caught our eye!!! not the Breakfast, but the Cold Beer and Fry Bread!!!
Now George is happy!!!!
Gracie looks a little thirsty!!
HURRY MAN, I'm dying here!!!
Had an ice cold beer...Navajo Taco and Fry Bread, and on the road again...
For all you Forrest Gump lovers....he ended his cross-country run here !!!
Found a great little hike just behind our campsite....and it's free!!!
Just plain POOPED!!!
A quick walk from our campsite, and we could enjoy the sunset over Monument Valley
Yes, I made them do this!!! George was being a good sport.
Good night from Monument Valley....
